03 Mar BEGINNER’S FEAR? LAZY SMOKEY EYE ROUTINE TO THE RESCUE
I fell in love with the smokey eye look when I was 14 years old. (I know, that is quite young to be sporting such a heavy look). Back then, Rb Chanco was doing my makeup on a regular for birthday parties, prom and anything else I attended and we played up with colors. Sometimes, we would do the OG smokey with layers of black but sometimes we would use green, plum or burgundy because I was “too young to always have dark makeup on.” Fast forward to 10 years later and that is still my go-to look but I don’t have the time or the luxury to get someone to do my makeup all the time.
If you know me then you know eye makeup is something I’m not that good at. And although I promise myself every year that I would sit down and practice on myself, frustration gets the best of me.
So this is what I do to get a subtle smokey look without having to go through process of putting eyeshadow:
I frequently work with a cream liner but to be honest, even a pencil liner would do. My go-to products to use are either Laura Mercier’s Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Khaki ($29) or Make Up For Ever’s Aqua XL Eye Pencil Waterproof Eyeliner ($21).
I draw a line on my lid, as close as possible to my lash line.
Then I either take a pencil brush or use my finger to smudge it. (But when I do use Make Up For Ever’s liner, I do have to blend faster than usual because when it sets, it doesn’t budge!)
I repeat this process as many times until I get the look I want.
And that’s it! The lazy smokey eye.
