25 Oct BLK COSMETICS.
Following the trend of celebrities making their mark in the beauty world, Anne Curtis recently made her debut as makeup founder of BLK Cosmetics, which she established with Jacque Yuengtian Guiterrez.
Like its name which stands for “black”, Anne’s new cosmetics line wants to be versatile and timeless. And to also become a must-have staple of every woman. With 6 matte lipsticks, 4 cream lipsticks, 5 liquid lipsticks, 2 powder foundations, 2 face palettes, 2 liquid eyeliners and 2 brow pencils, BLK has put together a pretty promising collection. We were definitely excited to try them out!
As a whole, we think the collection is elegant with a variation of warm nudes and pinkish tones that are more for women who like to keep it subdued and polished. For something bolder and more youthful, the Long-Lasting Liquid Matte Lipstick ($6.75) in Brazen and All-Day Intense Matte Lipstick ($5.79) in Brave deliver standout reds so you can rock it like Anne does. The liquid lipsticks and velvet cream lipsticks glide on smoothly enough and feel lightweight, but the former does become a little flaky over time.
Now to the lipsticks, our fave! The range is good with lots of different shades but we agreed it’s hard to really distinguish each from the other as they’re very similar in color. Like the Velvet Lip Cream ($5.79) in Classy is just a note away from the All-Day Intense Matte Lipstick in Charming and the deep red for the liquid lipstick is too similar as with the true red. Nevertheless, the formulation was amazing. The lipsticks were very pigmented, creamy and not at all drying.
The lipsticks do better in complementing different skin tones than the All-Day Matte Powder Foundations ($7.72), which I believe could use a few more shades to cater to the morena market.
The Contour, Blush & Highlight Palettes ($9.65) (Sun-kissed and Flushed), on the other hand, make it easy and fuss-free for first-time makeup users who wanna try sculpting. It includes a contour powder, highlighter and blush. You can lightly apply for sheer coverage and gradually build up color. Albeit for the blush, it’s hard to tell if the contour and highlighters are the same in the different palettes. They’re too similar to make a difference. But the highlighter and blush create a beautiful soft and radiant effect, thanks to the iridescent powders.
Because kilay is life, using the Brow Sculpting Pencil Duo ($4.82) will keep them on fleek. It comes with a spoolie on one end and a pencil on the other so you can create more natural, fuller brows in an instant. We recommend just filling in your brows with light strokes for a more natural look, instead of drawing harsh angles which many have been doing lately.
For more expressive eyes, the Long-Lasting Liquid Eyeliner ($4.82) in black completes the look, making it easier to draw those tricky wings and cat eyes. You can achieve precision and clean lines with this baby, but the felt tip tends to be a little runny so use primer beforehand or let the liquid liner dry completely – or else you’ll end up with a smudged mess. But once dry, it will not move!
OUR VERDICT: More sophisticated than playful, BLK Cosmetics is for the woman who’s about making subtle bold statements. BLK, as it presents, is all about creating confidence by highlighting your natural beauty and delivering good, solid shades that remove the guess work when it comes to looking for makeup for the everyday.
