13 Sep HAIRSTYLIST SPOTLIGHT: CATS DEL ROSARIO
How did you start?
I studied Hair Cutting Basic Class but never had formal training for hairstyling. When I was invited to present my Portfolio to Mr. Jed Root, he said “I heard you do hair as well.” I said, “I just stumbled upon it. I never introduce myself as a hairstylist cause I have no proper background. Since it’s hard to get a hairstylist around here who’s good. If no one was going to do it… I would!” So that started my career. I practically learned on the set. Self-taught basically.
Where do you buy your tools and products?
I shop mostly online in the U.S. Then I always hoard stuff whenever I travel. I always like to see what brands and products I can get my hands on.
I did go to Bangkok to buy natural hair extensions. Went to Cosmoprof in Hong Kong just for a day with Xeng Zulueta, that was one for the books.

How do you keep up with new trends?
I used to surf the net religiously to keep myself updated with new products, techniques, industry news and inspirational pegs. Although trends are there for a reason, they come and go. Although the tried and tested ones are being used by Makeup Artists and Hairstylist on the set.
What are the techniques from the past that you cannot live without?
(Hair) >>> I always request clients to shampoo twice and don’t use conditioner. It’s the same with makeup, you need to have a clean canvas but with this one… you need something that has a grip.
