21 Apr KEEP IT A-PEEL-ING.
Summer is here and if you don’t know, then you must be living under a rock because this heat is too real. Summer means it’s time to bake under the sun, float in crystal waters and runaway to paradise. But before your beach festivities begin, here’s what you need to know or what to do to keep your skin looking good and prevent it from peeling and looking like a flaky mess.
After being under the sun all day, it’s best to take a cold shower to cool your skin down. Rinse out all that tanning oil and salt water. Be gentle and pat yourself dry.
Moisturizing is key from this point onwards. The best ones to use are the ones designed for after sun exposure, which contain cooling elements like aloe vera. My favorite one to use is the Maui Babe After Browning Lotion ($24).
When I feel like I’ve gone a little overboard on the tanning, I grab my Hawaiian Tropic After Sun Gel ($6.92).
This definitely soothes any aches right away. I like this more than the others in the market because it contains the least amount of alcohol so it really feels more hydrating than the others. Some of the other brands I’ve tried did relieve the pain of sunburn but it sped up the process that caused me to peel anyway.
But if you do start to peel and you’re upset about it, don’t pick on it. Grab a piece of cotton, pour some coconut oil and gently rub that on the areas that are flaking off. Fight the urge of picking at them to avoid infections altogether!
