Not too long ago, a video went viral on Facebook. Lacôme made some noise by launching a foundation custom made for you – Le Teint Particulier ($80). The pains of going through trials and errors of finding the perfect shade for you was finally gone!

It is currently only available in the Lacôme counter of select Nordstrom stores. So curious me went to the closest Nordstrom that had it and 20 minutes later, I had my very own foundation.

The process was quite interesting. They first clean your face to make sure they get the right colors. Then they scan three different areas of your face and you can tell the Lacôme Beauty Advisor which part of your face you prefer. For someone like me who loves being tan, we stuck to scanning the darker spots of my face like my forehead. All this information is loaded onto a computer where the formulation begins. Your very own bottle goes in and you see the moisturizer pouring out, some green, yellow and red pigments come out, too. According to Lacôme, “to protect against oxidation and maintain color accuracy, the custom made technology is equipped with eight peristaltic heart pumps for an airtight blending and dispensing process.” Your bottle comes out and then put straight into the shaking machine that combines all those pigments and liquids into the formula just for you. Once the shaking process ends, the Beauty Advisor tests the foundation on your face to make sure you’re genuinely happy with the result.

During the bottling process, they ask what name you’d like to put on the label and tell you that you have your own complexion ID which, makes it easier for you if you were to ever order a refill of your custom foundation.

The funny thing about all this was that I showed my mom (who was in another continent) the whole process through whatsapp and she replied “I want. Tell them to make me one too!” I told the Beauty Advisor and we found a way to get her right shade by using the back of my arm and ear.

Now, I’m not sure if I would ever get a refill because opening $80 on a formula that is only 0.7 fl oz seems pretty steep to me but the experience was exciting for a makeup addict like me.
