31 May MAKEUP ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: CIARI LUNA
1. How did you start?
I started while I was still in college and I learned makeup from YouTube. I had a few makeup gigs here and there for college orgs and events. I got serious about makeup artistry after I graduated college and I decided to take a certificate course for it. After, I did lots of test shoots and portfolio shoots to practice and try different techniques.
2. Where do you buy your makeup?
For eye shadows and foundations I like to order online or from the States and have friends or family ship it here for me. Japan is definitely my favorite place to stock up on skincare, eyeliner, mascara and brow products.
3. Top 5 Must-haves in your kit?
Avene thermal face mist
The Balm Mary- loumanizer
Lorac pro contour palette and eye shadows
Mac Lingering eyebrow pencil is a staple Maybelline Mascaras.
4. Skin Prepping
I like being simple with prepping. So micellar water is my favorite to cleanse the skin with, Avene mist or Lush Rose Water Mist to tone, and a gentle gel-based moisturizer to finish. Then I use primer springily, focusing on the center of the face only. I like it when a bit of shine comes through the rest of the face.
5. Favorite makeup brands and why?
MAC is a staple because of its wide range of products that never fail to impress. Same with Makeup Forever. Lorac is a definite favorite because of the smooth and buttery texture of their products. Their contour shades are also very, very flattering. The Balm is also another favorite because they’re super good quality and a little goes a very long way.
6. Famous clients?
I’ve done the makeup of Laura Lehmann, Amina Aranaz and Andi Eigenmann.
7. Secrets you wouldn’t share with others?
My approach to makeup is very natural, but I secretly love it when my clients want to try out more trendy and glamorous looks.
8. Who would you love to put makeup on?
I’m obsessed with THICK eyebrows! I would love to do makeup on Lily Collins and Cara Delevigne.
9. How do you keep up with new trends?
I like to keep an eye out for new products when I’m out. YouTube is a really great place to keep up with the trends. I also like asking my clients for new products they’ve tried and approved of!
10. What are the techniques from the past that you cannot live without?
The three points to follow for the perfect brow is always a good technique
