How did you start?

I studied Basic Make-Up Artistry in the Center for Aesthetic Studies (CAS) in Makati, Philippines in 2014.

Before I studied make-up artistry I worked in corporate. Before corporate, I worked in publishing in 2011 for 3 years thereabouts. I wrote lifestyle features and cover stories and coordinated celebrity cover shoots. This fueled my interest in make-up artistry. I met stellar make-up artists: Mickey See, Jigs Mayuga, RB Chanco, Mark Kingson Qua, and Albert Kurniawan among others. I studied and observed them. Each one has an aesthetic and style and self-expression that is revealed in their muse—the result is a powerful translation of makeup artistry into beauty.

Today my work includes fashion, beauty, television, film, digital marketing campaigns, corporate, and weddings. I am a NARS Cosmetics Philippines Affiliate as well.

Moreover, I am deeply grateful to have makeup artistry mentors (then and now).

My philosophy is all about knowing the rules and then breaking them to create fearless beauty and statement looks. I want to revolutionize and elevate artistry in the Philippines and the world. Imaginative artistry instigates unexpected creativity. My ultimate dream is to work under the helm of Pat McGrath who is the world’s legendary, influential, and celebrated editorial and runaway make-up artist.

Where do you buy your makeup?

Sephora USA and Canada when I travel. I also purchase from the stores/counters of beauty brands here in Manila.

Top 5 Must-haves in your kit?

Moisturizer – to ensure the skin is nourished and hydrated. Skin care is essential. Pick a product that is appropriate for your skin type (normal, oily, dry, combination, sensitive).

Foundation, tinted moisturizer, or concealer – apply only in the areas where needed. Less is more. Let your skin breathe.

Bronzer – for an all over warmth. Pick a product that suits your skin tone (fair, light, medium, tan, deep) and matches your undertone (golden, yellow, olive, beige, pink / warm, neutral, cool).

Eyeliner – to lift, elongate, brighten, enhance, and define the eyes. Tightlining (also known as the invisible eyeliner) makes the lashes appear full and lush and dramatic.

Lipstick (a bold lip has incredible transformative power!) or tinted lip balm (combines lip care and lip color which I love) – to enhance, add dimension and color intensity. Find a shade (red, pink, coral, nude, berry, plum, brown) that suits your skin tone (fair, light, medium, tan, deep) and matches your undertone (golden, yellow, olive, beige, pink / warm, neutral, cool).

 Skin Prepping

Know your skin type (normal, oily, dry, combination, sensitive). Purchase and use skin care products that suit your skin type to ensure your makeup application is smooth and flawless.

Cleanse your face. Apply toner. Apply lip balm.

Apply moisturizer and under eye cream and sunscreen (careful as SPF may cause flashback in photography; skip SPF if you must to help prevent the white cast).

Apply primer and then apply your preferred base – foundation, tinted moisturizer, or BB/CC/DD Cream.

Let the skin absorb the skin care products before you apply your preferred base – foundation, tinted moisturizer, or BB/CC/DD Cream.

Also check the main ingredient of primer and foundation whether it is water or silicone. Avoid using a water-based primer with a silicone-based foundation and vice versa. They might possibly react, repel or ball up. Ensure that you use a water-based primer with a water-based foundation and use a silicone-based primer with a silicone-based foundation.
