18 Oct MAKEUP ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: OWEN SARMIENTO
How did you start?
— I was a retail artist for MAC Cosmetics in 2007. I was based in Marionnaud at SM Mall of Asia. I started doing fashion and beauty editorials in 2010. The same time I was also.promoted as the Trainer for the same brand. It was in 2014 that I decided to be a full time freelance makeup artist.
Where do you buy your makeup?
— Mostly when I travel. Also through relatives and friends who live abroad. Every now and then I buy from online resellers. And of course in stores here.
Top 5 Must-haves in your kit?
— Toner to soften the skin
— Moisturizer to hydrate and plump skin
— Skin Correctors
— Any lightweight softly reflective powder
— Contour palette
— First 3 products I mentioned above are very essential for me to prep the skin. At times when the skin is extra dry, I use a hydrating mask after toning. And I massage the skin like it’s a facial treatment!
Favorite makeup brands and why?
–I like La Mer skincare and it’s fluid foundation. The skin looks healthy and radiant. I also like the polished finishes of Charlotte Tibury products. You can’t also go wrong with MAC and Makeup Forever for colours!
— Maja Salvador, Kim Jones, Yeng Constantiino, Angeline Quinto, Claudia and Julia Barretto, Dominique Cojuangco, KZ Tandingan to name a few.
Secrets you wouldn’t share with others?
— i actually have no secrets but what I think is my strength is being able to do and practice makeup at a very young age. I started doing makeup since I was 9 years old and I never stopped. I had different jobs after college but makeup was always on the side.
Who would you love to put makeup on?
— Anyone! Every face is an opportunity to challenge your skills and be better at your craft.
How do you keep up with new trends?
— I do research online. It’s something that I was always exposed to when I was the Trainer for MAC. And I’m very observant. It’s sort of easy for me to see new techniques, colors, shapes and textures.
What are the techniques from the past that you cannot live without?
— Blend! You can use 6 or more eyeshadows color and make them look seamless!
And – how to book you?
— Email me through firstname.lastname@example.org
