1. How did you start?

I started makeup in 1999 mostly on friends. I came from a fashion retail background so being around models and the first group of makeup artists in the Philippines exposed me to the beauty industry. I went to makeup school in The London School of Beauty & Makeup that year as well. I was off to a rough start, really a struggling artist and couldn’t get by on makeup gigs alone so I became an expat and moved to the Bay Area after makeup school and my day job was in IT. This was all during the dot com boom of 2000. I moved back to the Philippines in 2002 and was hired to be the chief makeup artist for Shu Uemura. I left the company in 2008 and have been working freelance since.

2. Where do you buy your makeup?

NAMIE’s, NIGELS for all my professional makeup needs when I’m in LA. Sephora for the brands MILK, TOO FACED, TARTE or whatever is not in NAMIE’S & NIGELS. In Manila: SM Beauty, Beauty Bar. Online in Manila:, DTC.

3. Top 5 Must-haves in your kit?

KPalette products, Japanese branded mascara (obsessed!), Shu Uemura water, Japanese branded foundation, Hakuhodo makeup brushes.

4. Skin Prepping

Shu Uemura cleansing oil to remove makeup, if the face is clean then Nivea makeup wipes to freshen up the face, followed by a misting of Shu Uemura water, Avene or Evian water. Then plumping the skin with rose hip or other essential oils. My current one is jasmine oil. Then Skindanavia makeup primer spray.

5. Favorite makeup brands and why?

Too Faced Cosmetics – love the payoff colors and long wearability.

Milk Cosmetics – they’re kind of the anti-makeup and great for photo shoots. The type of makeup that’s fashion forward because it’s so sheer and skin-enhancing.

Shu Uemura – eyeshadows, blushes, foundation payoff and colors.

Koh Gen Do – foundation is amazing.

Kpalette – eyeliners and browliners and concealer is top of the line, mascara too!!!

Kevyn Aucoin – contour and highlight powders are wow.

Tom Ford – lipsticks are the bomb.

NYX – soft matte lip cremes are great for shoots.

Skindanavia – makeup sprays are the bomb.

OFRA – contour kit and liquid lipsticks.

LASplash liquid lipsticks–  what I use on myself.

Tarte – powder foundations and blushes for long wearability.

6. Famous clients?

The Gutierrez family, Aubrey Miles, Giselle Tongi, Sofia Andres, Gwen Zamora, Max Collins, Iya Villania, Semerad twins, John Spainhour, Pauleen Luna, Janine Gutierrez, Maxene Magaling, Maggie Wilson, Parul Shah, Bea Rose Santiago and many more lol

7. Secrets you wouldn’t share with others?

How I get eyelids & cheeks glossy without the use of petroleum jelly. How to apply false lashes the natural way. Both are still secrets I keep to myself lol.

8. Who would you love to put makeup on?

Gigi and Bela Hadid, Josephine Skriver, Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Kendall Kylie and Kim.

9. How do you keep up with new trends?

I don’t really follow trends. I go with however I think one’s features should be enhanced. Sometimes if I see a trend on Instagram I’ll do it on myself for fun.

10. What are the techniques from the past that you cannot live without?
